Looking for the best routine to shave your face? Look no more!
Clarins Beauty Coach Manager Jai Logan has got you covered with the most comprehensive shave and beard trim you’ve ever seen.
So without further ado, here’s Jai’s really simple step-by-step shaving guide – with a helpful video at the end.
Preparing your face
Before you even reach for the razor, you need to prepare – your skin and your nerves will thank you!
A razor is a series of ultra-fine blades, which you are dragging across the surface of your skin. So you need to take the time to ensure your skin is in the best possible condition to deal with shaving.
Start off by jumping in the shower in the morning – as nothing prepares you for a shave better than a nice warm shower.
The steam and moisture will help to open your pores and encourage your hairs to lift away from the skin’s surface, which will allow for a better shave.
You need to remember to effectively cleanse the skin while in the shower.
Grab the ClarinsMen’s Exfoliating Cleanser.
You can use this daily and it’s a great product to have, thanks to it’s gentle cleansing properties.
It also has microbeads, which remove the surface dirt on your skin and unclogs your pores. It can also work on any ingrown hairs you may have.
It’s quick and easy to use – just lather up on the face and beard/neck area, and then rinse.
How to get the best shave
Once you’ve finished in the shower and you’re ready to start your shave, pump some ClarinsMen Shave Ease Oil onto your hands.
This is essentially a miracle skin saviour in a bottle. It contains rosemary, mint and eucalyptus extracts.
These essential oils work on protecting the skin in preparation for shaving, while simultaneously healing and soothing any existing damage. It’s great to use on it’s own, particularly if you’re an electric shaver kind of guy, and also underneath the ClarinsMen Smooth Shave.
This lathers up and cushions the skin for you without being too foamy. It’s just the right consistency, allowing your razor to glide across the skin effectively without getting clogged up.
To figure out the best way in which you should be shaving, run your fingers across your stubble and you’ll feel the resistance of the hairs when you are running ‘against the grain’. This is what you want to avoid, and you should aim to be shaving ‘with the grain’.
This will stop any unwelcome pulling of the skin, or any dragging, and will allow you to avoid any dreaded nicks and cuts.
While you’re shaving, give the rest of your face a treat too with a bit of multi-tasking.
Apply Clarins SOS Hydra Mask on the face.
This is a superbly hydrating mask, containing the succulent Leaf Of Life which helps boosts the skin’s natural hydration levels. This can minimize the look of those finer lines – the perfect remedy after a late night!
Once you’ve finished your shave, be sure to splash the face and neck with a good dose of refreshing cold water. This helps to tighten up your pores and remove any remaining shaving foam.
Pat the face and neck dry, and then move onto your skin care treats for the day.
Shaving aftercare
Use the ClarinsMen’s HydraSculpt moisturizer, which is great for toning the jaw area and decongesting the skin.
It’s the perfect, lightweight, non-sticky texture – thanks to it’s dual dispensing container, which offers the cooling effect of a gel and soothing effect of a balm in one pump.
When applying to the neck and jaw area, bunch your hands into fists and work upwards to the chin area, which works on firming the jawline.
Finish off with some ClarinsMen UV Plus SPF50, which is an absolutely essential part of your daily routine all year round.
It protects the skin against UVA and UVB damage, as well as pollution. But it’s also lightweight and mattifying, so doesn’t leave any chalky residue on the face.
Be sure to cover the back of your neck and your ears as well with this, as these are both areas that tend to get overlooked.
