Human Rights Campaign, other LGBTQ groups attack CatholicVote ad showing Harris’ support of child ‘transgender’ surgeries

Written by

CV NEWS FEED // Multiple pro-LGBTQ activist groups targeted CatholicVote over its viral pre-election ad campaign highlighting Democratic nominee Kamala Harris’ history of promoting taxpayer-funded “transgender” surgeries on children.

The groups provided comments to the left-wing National Catholic Reporter (NCR), where one appeared to accuse CatholicVote of spreading “disinformation” and another claimed that the phenomenon of subjecting minors to “transgender” procedures was “extremely rare.”

In speaking with NCR, a spokeswoman from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) seemed to suggest that CatholicVote’s ads were part of an “atmosphere of politically motivated attacks and organized campaigns of disinformation.”

The HRC spokeswoman further alleged that

people are having to travel long distances — sometimes hundreds of miles or more — to see a doctor, because of politicians that disregard medical expertise and demand to make choices best left to doctors, their patients, and their family.

As CatholicVote previously reported, HRC has been one of the LGBTQ groups at the forefront of opposing parental rights laws in multiple states over the last few years.

Joining HRC in opposition to CatholicVote’s ads was New Ways Ministry (NWM), a deeply controversial left-wing group that describes itself as “a Catholic outreach that educates and advocates for equity, inclusion, and justice for LGBTQ+ persons.”

NWM Executive Director Francis DeBernardo claimed that subjecting minors to life-altering “transgender” procedures – which he referred to as “gender-affirming care” – is “extremely rare.”

DeBernardo also alleged: “The few surgeries done are most often as a last resort to help prevent major episodes of anxiety, depression, as well as the likely expectation of a suicide attempt.”

“It is dangerously irresponsible for CatholicVote to be promoting statistics in a way that makes them seem to be the norm, rather than the exceptions,” DeBernardino added.

In April, CatholicVote’s Catholic Accountability Project (CAP) released a report titled “Rainbow Wolves,” reporting that NWM is part of “a far-reaching, decades-long plan to help a secular movement lay siege to Catholic teachings on sex, the family, and marriage.”

Earlier this year, CatholicVote reported on the results of a Finnish study, which found that subjecting children who claim to be “transgender” to so-called “gender-affirming care” does not reduce the risk of suicide – contradicting a talking point often advanced by the LGBTQ movement.

GLAAD Media Institute Vice President Ross Murray also blasted CatholicVote’s ad campaign in comments made to NCR.

“Health care for transgender people has long been supported by every major medical association and leading world health authority, across specialties and patient lifespan, because it is safe, long-studied and prescribed,” he claimed.

“This form of medical care is life-giving, even life-saving,” Murray added, also appearing to advance the pro-LGBTQ talking point that subjecting children to “transgender” procedures prevents suicide.

>> SEPTEMBER: CV AD CAMPAIGN HIGHLIGHTS HARRIS’ ROLE IN PUSHING ‘TRANS’ SURGERIES ON KIDS <<

In mid-September, CatholicVote unveiled the first ad in its campaign, which targets Catholic voters and households with children in four key swing states: Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

CatholicVote President Brian Burch said at the time: “Thousands of trans surgeries are happening – on kids – across the country.”

“The Biden-Harris administration is using your tax dollars today to pay for them,” he continued.. “And Kamala Harris wants to expand these medical experiments on kids.”
