No matter where you are on the sexuality spectrum, it’s important that you treat your girlfriend right. Whether that’s presents, cooking dinner, or big treats… like luxury vacations away for you both to enjoy.

Speaking of which, why not treat your nearest and dearest this National Girlfriends’ Day to some of the world’s most dreamy destinations? From bustling scenes, unexpected beauty, and luxurious beach holidays, check out these lesbian-friendly travel spots.

The busy one: Buenos Aires, Argentina

Argentina is one of the most LGBTI-friendly countries in South America (the first to legalize equal marriage in 2010!) and Buenos Aires is a monument to that. The culture itself makes it relatively safe for lesbian couples visiting Buenos Aires, which is good, because there’s a lot you don’t want to miss.

Historical sites like the revolutionary Plaza de Mayo, world-renowned steak, and a buzzing LGBTI nightlife around the Palermo district, particularly nightclub Fiesta Jolie, makes it a must-visit.

The naturally beautiful one: Auckland, New Zealand

No one needs to tell you that New Zealand is beautiful; just watch Lord of the Rings. But the best way to catch this awe-inspiring country is from an amazing city – cue Auckland. The LGBTI scene is probably the strongest in the Kiwi nation.

So come for hiking the 52 different volcanoes, relaxing on their pure beaches, or foodie tours, the perfect way to experience really good, local cuisine. Stay for the vibrant LGBTI-friendly areas in K Road, Ponsonby Viaduct and Britomart.

The traditional-meets-modern one Tokyo, Japan

Don’t be fooled by the shy stereotypes: Tokyo has a vibrant gay scene that makes visiting the city an absolute treat. Historic sights include the jaw-dropping Imperial Palace and the Sensō-ji Temple, whereas you can splash the cash in the shops of the Ginza district.

Meanwhile, the incredible Tokyo Skytree – one of the tallest freestanding structures in the world – boasts panoramic views that make it a viral-story-waiting-to-happen place to pop the question. Then, come nighttime, you can see how hard Japanese people party in the gay Shinjuku-nichōme area.

The beach party one: Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands

Palma in general is a hotbed for LGBTI fun. Obviously, this is the first choice if you want to sit on beaches drinking booze cheaper than water. But there are some beautiful sights to see, whether that’s cycle tours through its famous woodland, witnessing its gothic cathedrals, or cruising across the amazing Balearic sea.

But not only does it have a wide-variety of gay-friendly bars to visit, the Ella International Lesbian Festival (typically during the first week of September) transforms the city into a musical wonderland with a lesbian focus.

The lesbian capital one: Northampton, Massachusetts, USA

The National Enquirer called the city ‘Lesbianville, USA,’ in 1992. If that’s not a ringing endorsement, I don’t know what is. Half-jokingly referred to as the lesbian capital of the country, it has way more to offer than just, well, a large population of lesbian people.

The restaurant scene is especially strong for vegetarians and vegans, with the likes of Haymarket Cafe and Green Bean. The bars are bustling, with live music being a particular highlight. It’s the ideal place if you’re looking to soak up some American LGBTI culture.
