Instagram recently came under fire after they removed a photo of two men kissing.
Photographer Stella Asia Consonni, who uploaded the photo, found Instagram deleted it for ‘violating community standards’.
Instagram reinstated the photo and also apologized for their decision.
‘This post was removed in error and we are sorry. It has since been reinstated,’ a spokesperson said in a statement.
Before the apology, celebrities like Years & Years’ frontman Olly Alexander and Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall slammed the social media platform for the removal.
A relationship reduced to this
The photo is of couple Jordan Bowen and Luca Lucifer.
Bowen posted it on his own Instagram page and addressed the fact that it was taken down.
‘My relationship of seven years with @iamlucalucifer reduced to a Community Guideline,’ he wrote.
‘Earlier this was removed from @stellaasiaconsonni and flagged as inappropriate. @instagram spoon feeds us with rainbows and hashtags to appear in solidarity but it seems real people in love have no place here. this is discriminatory and archaic and violates our right as a couple. Please help us share and put this right. Oh and #happypride everyone. xxx jb’
Consonni also addressed it in her own post.
‘IG apologised for taking the picture down but there is still a long way to go to fight homophobia – judging also from the hate comments below.’
Recently, YouTube also apologized for their treatment of LGBTQ creators.
