Lorna Luft, the daughter of screen legend Judy Garland, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor after collapsing backstage following a concert appearance in London.
The 65-year-old singer-actor was rushed to hospital on Friday (9 March) following the second of four sold-out shows at London’s Pizza Express Jazz Club.
Luft’s husband, Colin Freeman, had been growing concerned because she was forgetting song lyrics and words of her monologue, The Guardian reported.
A spokesperson said Luft was undergoing additional medical tests. In 2012, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but is currently in remission.
Luft is the daughter of Garland and movie producer Sid Luft. She is the half-sister of singer-actor Liza Minelli.
Luft has been performing in stage productions and television shows since childhood, first appearing in a Christmas episode of her mother’s 1963 television variety show.
Luft is the author of the 1998 book Me and My Shadows: A Family Memoir. That best-seller was adapted into the Emmy-winning 2001 television miniseries, Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows, which starred Judy Davis as an adult Garland and Tammy Blanchard as a teenaged Garland.
Luft, who has been married to Freeman since 1996, also appeared in the movies Grease 2 (1982), Where the Boys Are ’84 (1984) and 54 (1998).
Luft has two children, son Jesse Hooker and daughter Vanessa Hooker, from a previous marriage to musician Jake Hooker.
