Kesha just revealed that Rainbow The Movie will be released via iTunes on 10 August.

The film follows after her 2017 album, Rainbow, and its subsequent tour. She’s currently still playing dates alongside Macklemore in the US.

Kesha’s not the first artist to look to turn albums into movies. Beyoncé released a long-play visual for her entire Lemonade album, while Janelle Monae recently released a visual album to accompany her album, Dirty Computer.

Kesha posted a teaser video for the film on her social media today.

Rainbow album and court battles

It’s not clear if the film will be visuals for individual tracks, tour footage or behind the scenes documentary – or a combination.

It’s also unknown if Kesha will be discussing any of the controversy around her legal battle Dr Luke. The singer accused the producer and former collaborator of sexual assault, battery and harrasment in 2014 – with some allegations going back to 2005. Dr Luke denied the allegations and counter-sued.

The legal battle put Kesha’s career on hold for almost three years. A judge in California later dismissed the sexual assault case saying the allegations exceeded the statute of limitations. Separate lawsuits concerning her contractual obligations to Dr Luke were settled out of court.

The case took an emotional toll on the singer and songwriter but fans and fellow celebrities have rallied to her support.

August 2017 saw the release of her third album, Rainbow. It hit number one on the US Billboard 200 and number 4 in the UK. It charted in the top ten of over half a dozen other countries.
