Manchester lesbians stand with trans people at Pride | All photos by Joe Morgan/Gay Star News
Lesbians made it very clear they were standing in solidarity with the trans community at Manchester Pride today (25 August).
A newly formed group, L With The T, brought gay women and trans people together.
Seven weeks ago, a group of trans-exclusionary radical feminists blocked the start of Pride in London.
The eight women stormed the parade route without accreditation. ‘Transactivism erases lesbians’, their banner read.
One activist shouted out: ‘A man who says he’s a lesbian is a rapist’.
Eventually, Pride in London organizers allowed them to be at the parade.
But there was no bigotry, no transphobia at Manchester Pride.
Manchester Pride ‘leads with love, not hate’
Louise, a lesbian, was leading the group.
‘We live in a very divided world at the moment. The last thing we need as a community is to be divided,’ she told Gay Star News.
‘We need to sit down and talk to one another with love.
‘Only love conquers hate.
She added: ‘Lesbians get the same attacks and assaults as trans people do. Thirty years ago, they were taking our children off us. Now, they’re taking trans children away.
‘We’re not standing for that. The same attacks in the media that happened against lesbians 30 years ago are mirrored by the terrible right-wing media that are attacking trans people today.
‘The trans community have fought for equality alone. It’s time as a community that we stand by our trans.’
Gay Star News was back at Manchester Pride handing out over 5,000 tote bags. We also couldn’t resist sharing our fave pics from the parade.
The theme for this year’s parade was ‘Circus of Acceptance’. So expect stilt walkers, clowns, and a lot of love.
