LGBTI celebrities send their love to Demi Lovato following alleged overdose

In the tragic moments following Demi Lovato rushing to the hospital due to an alleged overdose last night (24 July), many celebrities took to social media to express their love for the singer.

The initial reports by TMZ claimed it was a heroin overdose, but were later denied.

Another source then told People the singer was stable in the early hours of today (25 July). They also stated the overdose wasn’t heroin-related.

‘Demi is awake and with her family’

Furthermore, a spokesperson for the artist released the following statement.

‘Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support.’

‘Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy.’

Demi Lovato has always been vocal about her own battles

The Skyscraper singer, who was going to perform in Atlantic City on 26 July, has been struggling with substance abuse all of her life.

Lovato, who revealed she is attracted to both men and women, has also been vocal about battling her own demons and helped fight the stigma surrounding mental health issues and addiction.

As if you need yet another reason to love her, she offered fans free therapy sessions before her concerts.

Ellen and Gaga tweeted their support

Lesbian legend Ellen DeGeneres was among the first celebrities to express their solidarity.

‘I love @DDLovato so much. It breaks my heart that she is going through this. She is a light in this world, and I am sending my love to her and her family,’ DeGeneres tweeted on 24 July.

Lady Gaga also took to Twitter to show her support to her colleague in this delicate time.

‘We should all wrap our arms of love around Demi Lovato,’ she wrote.

‘I am so happy you’re alive.’

Khelani: ‘addiction isn’t simple nor easy’

Bisexual singer Kehlani showed her support and love to Demi in two tweets addressing addiction.

‘addiction isn’t simple nor easy,’ she said.

She also added: ‘addiction isn’t one of those things you can put yourself in the shoes of. you had to have fought the fight yourself or had it rip your family apart your entire life… even then, the latter is still not the same thing.’

Openly gay figure skater Adam Rippon said ‘addiction is very real’.

Halsey: ‘Your bravery is unbeatable’

Despite having had disagreements in the past, bisexual singer Halsey also tweeted her support to Lovato today.

‘Sending all my love to @ddlovato. I hope she is given the privacy, respect, support and compassion she deserves right now.’

Moreover, openly gay singer Sam Smith expressed his love.

Lesbian singer Hayley Kiyoko tweeted she ‘can’t stop thinking about Demi’.

Love, Simon gay actor Keynan Lonsdale also shared a message for Demi.

‘Recovery becomes a huge part of your life’

Trans writer and comedian Shon Faye shared a thread about addiction. The LGBTI activist also accused media outlets to ‘betray the trust involved in her honesty’.

‘Lovato has released music about her history of addiction bc [sic] recovery becomes a huge part of your life.’
