Library Board Members Can Sue Over Post-LGBTQ Support Firings

Local library board members in Louisiana can pursue their claims that the parish adopted a resolution removing them from their positions in retaliation for their support of LGBTQ rights, a federal circuit said.

William R. McHugh, III, Anthony Parr, and Rebecca Taylor alleged the St. Tammany Parish Council issued a newly-adopted resolution in retaliation for their protected speech made during library board meetings on topics concerning minors’ access to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer literature at the parish’s libraries.

This suit comes in the wake of several free speech cases in Texas, Arkansas, Iowa, and Florida …
