There’s no doubt there’s an undeniable stigma surrounding guys wearing makeup.

For this reason, there’s loads more skincare information for women, but little for men.

So we asked Clarins Beauty Coach Tyler Holdom to take us through what to wear for a natural look and what to do to protect your skin before and after applying makeup.

‘I wear makeup because I love the way my skin looks once I have applied it,’ Tyler told Gay Star News. ‘I love the way it makes me feel.’

He believes it can make you feel more ‘confident, powerful and happy.’

Tyler doesn’t wear it everyday – rather, for a night out or to look fresh for work.

He continued: ‘Some days when I’m not feeling my best… its like an instant pick me up – I feel ready to conquer the day.

‘There is a lot of stigma around guys wearing makeup, but hey, if it makes you feel good then who the hell cares!

‘Keep doing you boo,’ he added.

Pre-makeup skincare regime

Tyler said: ‘Before I apply my makeup I always like to make sure my skin is hydrated, primed and protected.

‘This is important to make sure it lasts all day and my skin looks perfect whatever the time.

‘If I was stuck on a desert island and could only take one skincare item, my go-to product is the Clarins Double Serum.

‘It goes deeper than a moisturizer and can help with my skin’s five vital functions – hydration, oxygenation, nutrition, protection and regeneration.

‘After this, I’ll go in with a lightweight moisturizer, so I normally grab our ClarinsMen Revitalizing Gel. It gives my skin an energy boost and helps with the first signs of ageing. Who doesn’t need that?

‘Then I use UV Plus for Men, which is an SPF 50 sunscreen. It’s lightweight, gives a matte finish,’ he said.

Time for the makeup

The Clarins makeup which Tyler uses includes:

  • The SOS Primer in 00 Universal Light, which gives the skin a beautiful glow.
  • For a foundation that’s super lightweight but still gives good coverage, Tyler uses the Clarins Skin Illusion Foundation in shade 108 Sand.
  • Then the Duo Bronzer in shade 01 because, well, who doesn’t love to be tanned!
  • To get a healthy blush, I use the Clarins Blush in shade 02 Soft Peach.
  • And finally the Clarins Lip Oil in shade Raspberry. This makes the lips look plumped, hydrated and shiny – with a flash of colour. Win!
  • After he’s applied it all, he uses the Clarins Fix makeup setting spray – it’s scented like roses and smells beautiful!

Aftercare

‘So to take makeup off, you could use the ClarinsMen’s Active Face Wash,’ Tyler reveals. ‘It removes impurities, and the gel formula is non drying on the skin – so suitable for all skin types.’

He continued: ‘But I personally use the one step cleanser in mint (for normal to combination skin) which removes makeup, cleanses and tones all in one simple step. Fast and easy!’
