Dame Edna Everage calls trans women ‘mutilated men’
Barry Humphries is causing controversy once again by going on a rant about trans people, calling it ‘rat-baggery’
The comedian behind Dame Edna Everage, a drag queen, has called trans people ‘terrible rat-baggery’.
He also said teachers who promote trans rights are ‘evil’ and ‘crazy’. Humphries has also called the idea of being trans a ‘fashion’.
Speaking to the Spectator, the 84-year-old comedian was asked about his views on trans rights.
‘Terrible rat-baggery,’ he responded. He called being trans a ‘fashion – how many different kinds of lavatory can you have?
‘And it’s pretty evil when it’s preached to children by crazy teachers.’
He previously attacked trans women, calling them ‘mutilated men’.
He had also attacked Caitlyn Jenner three years ago, saying she ‘self-mutilated’ herself and is a ‘publicity-seeking ratbag’.
‘It’s all given the stamp – not of respectability, but authenticity or something. If you criticise anything you’re racist or sexist or homophobic,’ he added.
‘They had their genitalia chopped off and tucked in and whatever they had to do. And that aroused a lot of indignation — probably among the people who’d spent a lot of money having it done. But I don’t think I’m right to pontificate. I’m really an actor.’
The Australian also supported President Donald Trump in the interview.
‘I’m grateful to Trump for stirring up politics,’ he said. ‘And I won’t be joining any marches against him.’
Twitter reacts to Barry Humphries’ transphobic rant
Kate Doak, a trans woman, wrote on Twitter: ‘So Barry Humphries thinks that I’m full of “ratbaggery”?
‘Well, he is right for once. As a journalist I sure love causing a bit of a stir with my work every so often by dropping a ripper of a good yarn and living authentically…’
Harry Cook said on Twitter: Barry Humphries is an ignorant bigot, a homophobe/transphobe and all around national disgrace.
‘He’s also not funny whatsoever, a tacky pub performer and someone I’ve always thought to be a complete and utter nincompoop.’
Another Twitter user said: ‘I mean I knew Barry Humphries was a dumbass but my god he’s a fucking dumbass.’
