President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, said future films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will introduce two LGBTQ characters.

While speaking with Gregory Ellwood from The Playlist, Feige addressed the glaring blemish on the ever-expanding franchise.

Ellwood point-blank asked Feige: ‘When are we getting a Gay, Bi, LGBTQ, out character in the MCU? Is it even in the works?’

Feige had an equally direct response and that was simply ‘yes’. He then added the characters are both ones fans have seen before and also completely new.

The answers don’t give away much, especially before they’re actually seen on the big screen. However, many fans may find it a welcome step forward.

Who could it be and is it too late?

Many presume the known character will be Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, first and last seen in Thor: Ragnarok.

Thompson confirmed the character is bisexual.

Then a scene from the film confirming her sexuality was cut.

The same thing happened with this year’s hit Black Panther.

Cynicism around LGBTQ representation in media is understandable. More often than not, it comes down to nothing more than lip service.

Marvel directors have previously talked about having LGBTQ characters — yet it hasn’t actually happened yet.

It’s happened elsewhere too, such as in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Jurassic World, or the live-action Beauty and the Beast’s ‘exclusively gay moment‘.

Hopefully fans get the representation they deserve sooner rather than later.
