PROCESS HAPPENING TODAY, A NEW LGBTQ RESOURCE CENTER IS HAVING A GRAND OPENING IN HARRISBURG STRAWBERRY SQUARE. BUT THE VERY FOCUSED MISSION THE CENTER DESIGNED TO HELP LGBTQ PLUS MEN OF COLOR AND TRANS WOMEN OF COLOR IN THE CITY. YEAH, THIS NEW CENTER IS GOING TO BE CALLED GLOW HARRISBURG, AND IT’S ON SUITE 204. THE SECOND FLOOR OF STRAWBERRY SQUARE. AND IT WILL PROVIDE A NUMEROUS AMOUNT OF SERVICES, INCLUDING MENTAL HEALTH, MEDICAL AND EDUCATIONAL SERVICES IS TO MEMBERS OF THE LGBTQ PLUS COMMUNITY. BUT WHAT SETS IT APART? WHILE I HAVE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AMBER ROADCAP HERE WITH ME, SHE’S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE LGBT CENTER OF CENTRAL PA. WHAT’S DIFFERENT WITH THIS CENTER? SO GLOW HARRISBURG IS FOR LGBTQ FOLKS OF COLOR, UH, CENTERING ON THE NEEDS OF QUEER TRANS PEOPLE OF COLOR. UM, OFFERING HOUSING AND AS WELL AS WE HAVE A CLOTHING BANK AND A FOOD PANTRY, WE ARE OPEN MONDAYS, TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS AND FRIDAY, 3 TO 8. TODAY IS OUR RIBBON CUTTING. WE’RE SO EXCITED TO HAVE THE NEW GLOW SPACE OPEN AND READY TO WELCOME FOLKS SO OBVIOUSLY THERE’S A LOT OF SERVICES THAT YOU’RE PROVIDING TO THESE TARGET GROUPS, BUT WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE A PART OF THIS CAUSE? AND ALSO, HOW CAN PEOPLE OUT THERE HELP IN THIS CAUSE AS WELL? In Harrisburg’s Strawberry Square, a new center designed to help LGBTQ+ men of color and trans women of color is opening today. GLO Harrisburg will provide educational, behavioral, mental health and medical services to its guests. In addition, free and confidential STI/HIV testing, plus a variety of other social services, are provided on-site.The center is also equipped with a food pantry, clothing bank and housing for its members.Amber Roadcap, who is the executive director of the LGBT Center of Central Pennsylvania, said GLO Harrisburg is a sister site of the LGBT Center of Central Pennsylvania but gives the organization an opportunity to focus on more specific groups within the community.”Having a space that is safe and affirming for our communities of color and marginalized folks within the LGBTQ umbrella is so important,” Roadcap said. “Right now, it is more important than ever to celebrate and support your LGBTQ Center of Central Pennsylvania.” The grand opening of the center will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Strawberry Square. Normal hours of operation are 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
