Last week we revealed that Tales of the City is returning for a new season. Netflix has commissioned a new, ten-episode run.
The show is based on the books by Armistead Maupin, based around the lives of the residents of a boarding house in San Francisco. The original stories featured a raft of LGBTI characters.
The new season will again feature Laura Linney took the role of Mary Ann Singleton and Olympia Dukakis played Anna Madrigal, the owner of the boarding house at 28 Barbary Lane.
Ellen Page will join the cast as Shawna (Mary Ann’s daughter).
However, it would appear that there are still some roles no yet cast. Actor Samira Wiley has posted a message to her Instagram advertising the fact that the show’s producers (Netflix, Working Title TV and NBCUniversal International Studios) are keen to the part of trans man Jake Rodriguez with a trans male actor.
They are seeking a Latino trans male in their 20s or 30s.
They describe Jake as someone: ‘Who has recently transitioned (in the last two years). While comfortable in his own skin, he is still learning how to navigate his old relationships in his new identity.’
The character will be a series regular, not just a one-off cameo.
If anyone reading this feels they fit the bill, email [email protected] with the following details: Name; Height; Current location; Picture: and contact information (email and phone).
The series will shoot between July and November in NYC.
The writer and showrunner for the show is Lauren Morelli, who previously worked on Orange Is The New Black. It was on that show she met her now-wife: Samira Wiley! The two married just over a year ago and recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary at Disneyland.
There’s no word yet on whether Wiley will have a role herself on Tales of the City. GSN has contacted producers for further comment.
