Newport Mesa High School Ends Referrals to Controversial LGBTQ Center
Newport Mesa High School in Southern California recently ceased referring students to the LGBTQ Center of Orange County after an exposé by the Daily Signal. The articles revealed that the school was directing students to resources promoting transgender surgeries and hormone therapies for minors without parental consent.
The Discovery
The Daily Signal first reported that Newport Mesa Unified School District partnered with the OC LGBTQ Center, whose website offers various transgender transition services, including hormone therapy and surgeries such as chest masculinization, breast augmentation, and more. The Center’s website features a form allowing minors to connect with therapists and medical professionals to facilitate these procedures.
Community Response
Parents and community members expressed outrage upon learning that students were being directed to these resources. The revelation raised significant concerns about the lack of parental involvement in such critical and life-altering decisions for minors.
“I was shocked to learn that my child could be referred to such services without my knowledge,” said a concerned parent. “This goes against everything we believe about parental rights and the importance of family involvement in major health decisions.”
School District’s Action
In response to the uproar, Newport Mesa High School quickly removed the link to the LGBTQ Center’s resources from their website. The school district’s public relations officer, Annette Franco, stated, “We do not partner with any of the resource providers and none of our direct links are connected to gender transition counseling/therapy. We support students and know they are more successful when we involve their parents and families in decisions that impact their lives.”
The school also initiated a review of all external resources linked on their site to ensure they align with district policies and involve parental consent.
Statement from CFC
Greg Burt, Vice President of California Family Council, commented on the issue, saying, “Parents have the fundamental right to be involved in all health-related decisions for their children, especially those that involve irreversible medical procedures. The fact that a school district would refer minors to a website for these services without parental consent is deeply troubling. We are pleased to see the district has taken steps to rectify this situation, but it underscores the need for vigilance and transparency in all educational settings.”
Conclusion
The Newport Mesa High School incident highlights the ongoing attack on parental rights from state-funded educational institutions and their promotion of sterilizing drugs and mutilating surgeries on gender-confused youth. While the school has halted its referrals, the situation illustrates the important part parents and Christian leaders play in protecting children from gender ideology.
