Non-binary activist assaulted as man allegedly puts head up their dress

Non-binary activist Jamie Windust posted on Instagram yesterday (2 September) about a man allegedly assaulting and discriminating against them.

Windust shared the details of the encounter on their Instagram story for their more than 13,000 followers.

It occurred at a coffee shop, when Windust reported three men suddenly approached them.

‘One proceeded to put his hands and head underneath to “investigate” what I was,’ they alleged.

Windust said they got the man off of them, but the most shocking part was that no one did anything when it happened.

‘The fact that no one responded to the incident, asked if I was ok or even looked over was completely shocking and not ok.’

Next, Windust shared the reason they were revealing the story.

They wrote it was to highlight the violence trans and non-binary people face, as well as the way men act entitled around ‘femme presenting bodies’.

Windust further revealed they contacted the MET police about the incident. They said they were ‘surprised and happy’ because the police are reportedly currently investigating what happened.

They then went back to the fact that no one came to help.

‘Straight people, step your asses into gear and be aware of your surroundings,’ they wrote. ‘I was vulnerable and audibly shouting on the street at a busy time and not one person came over or asked if I was ok.’

Windust finished with a heartfelt thank you.

‘I will never change myself for other people, I will continue to be myself, and will continue to empower myself and my community to know our worth. … If one of us is not free, none of us are.’
