Left-leaning protestors converged on Chicago on August 18, a day before the city will hold the much-awaited Democratic National Convention. Thousands marched on the streets downtown as Vice President Kamala Harris is set to rally for her White House race.
While some demonstrated in support of LGBTQ and abortion rights, most seemed to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Demonstrations are expected every day of the convention, showcasing divisions in the left ranks in an important week for Harris.
The convention will draw an estimated 50,000 people to the nation’s third-largest city, including delegates, activists and journalists. As the DNC prepares to welcome the Harris-Walz duo, Chicago Police have erected fences and barricades to maintain law and order.
