Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg attended the United States AIDS Conference in Orlando. Hogg took the stage to bring attention to the epidemic of trans people being murdered in America.

Carrying a fan featuring the colors of the trans pride flag that read ‘End Trans Gun Violence,’ the #MarchForOurLives founder tied in gun violence to anti-trans hate crimes. Virtually all of the murder of trans women have been via gunfire.
‘We’re more upset about a pair of shoes than gun violence… or HIV/AIDS,’ Hogg said in his speech.

The Conference
D.C.-based national HIV/AIDS advocacy organization NMAC organizes the The United States AIDS Conference.
‘Our opening plenary is focused on the importance of activism,’ said NMAC Executive Director Paul Kawata said of the event.
‘Activism in the fight against HIV intersects many communities: youth, LGBTQ, elders, and communities of color,’ he said.
‘We want to show how different activist movements can intersect with the fight against HIV and strengthen our forces for change.’
What other Parkland survivors are doing
Hogg is not the only Parkland survivor to advocate for LGBTI rights. Cameron Kasky, a classmate of Hogg’s, recently joined amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research. Through their research and their #BeEpic campaign on social media, amfAR hopes to end the global AIDS epidemic.
