Pulse nightclub gunman’s father ‘was FBI informant for 11 years’, court hears

Written by gaytourism

Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, was the site of the largest mass shooting in US history

The lawyers of the Pulse Nightclub gunman’s wife claim they have only just learnt the attacker’s father was allegedly an FBI informant.

Omar Mateen opened fire in Pulse Nightclub and killed 49 people in June 2016.

However his widow, Noor Salman, 31, is accused of helping her husband plan the attack in Orlando.

But her lawyers are arguing grounds of a mistrial, saying that prosecutors should have disclosed information earlier in the case.

Her lawyers’ federal court motion said prosecutors contacted them on Saturday night and told them about Seddique Mateen’s relationship with the FBI.

Lawyers claim the government’s late disclosure stopped them from exploring possibility that Seddique Mateen was more involved.

‘The violations in this case have placed Ms. Salman, the jury, and this Court in a dark wood where the search for truth has been thwarted.’

Withheld information ‘violates Salman’s Fifth Amendment right to due process and Sixth Amendment’

Salman’s team also claim that historical accounts of illegal donations and money transfers, were allegedly withheld from jurors, according to Associated Press.

Furthermore, they argue that the withheld information violates Salman’s Fifth Amendment right to due process and Sixth Amendment right to a fair trial.

The case continues.
