Following a riddled development history and dramatic production, the first trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody is finally here. And it is choc full of Queen’s best hits.

Directed by Dexter Fletcher (after original director Bryan Singer’s firing), the film stars Rami Malek as one of the greatest musicians and rock stars of our time: Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

The trailer doesn’t give much in the way of plot but it looks glamorous and like plenty of fun.

Malek dons several fabulous outfits in his portrayal of Mercury, and an amused smirk continually on his face.

The movie takes place over the course of 15 years, from the band’s formation to their 1985 Live Aid performance. Mercury died in 1991 due to complications from AIDS.

The project was first announced in 2010 and went through various growing pains before getting to this point.

Initially, Sacha Baron Cohen was cast in the role of Mercury. Original band member Brian May approved his casting. However, Cohen eventually left the project following creative differences. He wanted to make a more adult-oriented film, with an exploration of Mercury’s personal life, including his contraction of AIDS. However, the band wanted a family-friendlier approach.

Once Malek landed the role, many marveled at his uncanny look as Mercury.

From Killer Queen to Another One Bites the Dust and, of course, the titular Bohemian Rhapsody, the trailer has no shortage of Queen classics.

The movie hits US theaters on 2 November and UK theaters on 24 October.
