RuPaul made history at the Emmys last night in Los Angeles. RuPaul’s Drag Race won the Emmy for Best Reality Competition Series. This follows RuPaul winning the Emmy for best host of a reality competition series earlier in the month. This is the first time one show has scooped both awards in the reality category in the same year.

Accepting the award for Best Reality Series, RuPaul said, ‘This is so lovely. To the Academy, this is so lovely; we are so happy to present this show.’
He thanked many of those who had supported him and contributed to the success of the show, as well as, ‘all of the dreamers out there.’
He ended by adding one of his life mottos: ‘If you can’t love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else.’
Last night win of two Emmys bring the show’s overall Emmy win to five in its history.
‘For every kid who felt they never belonged’
Accompanying RuPaul to last night’s ceremony at the Microsoft Theatre were several show regulars, including judging veteran Michelle Visage. She later posted her own celebration of the Emmy wins to her social media.
‘This is for every queen who has hit that main stage, for every kid who felt they never belonged anywhere, for every child who has been thrown out of their home for being LGBTQIA+, for every person out there who loves our show and what we do, THIS IS FOR YOU! I LOVE YOU ALL.’
