Savannah LGBTQ+ center raising money for new building

First City Pride is one of only two LGBTQ+ resources centers in Georgia

There are only two places in all of Georgia dedicated exclusively to the LGBTQ+ community and the one in Savannah is now raising money to fund a new building.“For me, it’s really been a welcoming presence. They have resources and link events and work with a lot of partners across the city,” Volunteer Beau Frail told WJCL 22 News.Frail and others stepped up when he heard First City needed a new place to call home. “We face unique challenges, and we also have unique celebrations and joys, that yes we could share with the broader community, but sometimes it’s very powerful to come together with members of your own community,” said Frail. First City is raising money to find that perfect spot to hold events like alcoholics anonymous meetings, clothing exchanges, counseling, wellness testing and so much more. It wasn’t just a fundraiser: feminist choir Spectra Singers belted out and the Savannah Archives is showing off part of their ongoing exhibit of ‘Pride in the Hostess City.’ “Having an organization—a nonprofit like First City Pride—and the programs that they provide, is so essential, and having a physical space can be even more reaffirming,” said Frail. You can learn more about First City Pride on their website, and can donate to their building fund here.
