Fans of Freeform’s axed show Shadowhunters are doing more than campaigning for the show to be saved — they’re giving back.
To date, fans have raised nearly $15,000 for The Trevor Project, after setting a goal of $500.
According to the fundraiser’s description, fans are working on the #SaveShadowhunters campaign, ‘but we thought it would be useful to channel some of our passion and frustration to raise awareness and also showcase the generosity of the Shadowhunters fandom’.
The Trevor Project is an American non-profit that focuses on suicide prevention among LGBTQ youth.
Shadowhunters, loosely based on Cassandra Clare’s book series The Mortal Instruments, premiered on Freeform in 2016. It lasted for three seasons, before Freeform canceled it earlier this month.
Fans praised the show for its diversity, specifically for LGBTQ characters and relationships.
‘This show… This show, with its diverse casting and representation,’ they wrote on the fundraising page. ‘This show, with its wonderful LGBTQIA+ portrayal, from pride in being oneself to a healthy, strong relationship.’
The dedication continued: ‘This show, with its empowered and empowering women who are independent, solid friends, and not overlooked by anyone. This show, with family ties and love being a driving force for good. This show, with its brilliant cast who are kind and genuinely care about their characters and their fans.’
It concluded: ‘This show, with its talented and dedicated crew who love it just as much as anyone. This show, with its incredible fans who stand together – united, always. This show, that wins awards and has found its place as a respectable show in the fantasy genre. ‘
But that’s not all
Beyond raising money for a good cause, fans are pulling out all the stops to help save their show.
On Friday (22 June), they had a plane fly a banner reading ‘# Save Shadowhunters ❤’ over Netflix Studios.

That’s what we call dedication.
The final episodes of Shadowhunters — unless it’s saved — will air in 2019.
