Robin Wright discussed the sexual abuse allegations against Kevin Spacey and departure from the Netflix series House of Cards while on NBC’s TODAY Show.

She said the whole production was ‘surprised’ and ‘ultimately saddened’ by what transpired.

Wright and Spacey co-starred in the Netflix political drama since it first premiered in 2013. The streaming giant announced the series would be moving forward with a sixth and final season following Anthony Rapp’s allegations against Spacey.

Wright spoke with TODAY anchor Savannah Guthrie.

‘We were co-workers, really, we weren’t… never socialized outside of work,’ Wright said when Guthrie asked her if anything made her think this was possibe.

‘A respectful, professional relationship. He was so great with me… never disrespectful to me. That’s my personal experience, that’s the only thing I feel that I have the right to talk about.’

Spacey is now facing numerous criminal investigations across London, New York, and Los Angeles.

Respectful to ‘back off’

Wright further commented about Netflix’s decision to cut Spacey.

‘I don’t know how to comment on that,’ she said at first. ‘But I think at that time, the shock was so intense all over the nation, for many reasons, for many stories, many people… I think everybody felt that it was respectful to back off.’

Guthrie also asked Wright if she’s experienced harassment in this industry.

‘Of course,’ she responded. ‘Who hasn’t?’

In fact, a recent report revealed 94% of women in Hollywood have experience sexual harassment and/or assault.

‘This is a bigger, broader issue, I think. Seduction — I don’t care who you are — is about power. And once you overpower someone, that person becomes vulnerable. This last year has shined a light in a new way to allow us to start a new converstion. So we just need to shift the paradigm.’
