The CW is developing a reboot of the witchy series Charmed, which originally ran from 1998 to 2006.

Set in the modern-day, the new take is described as ‘a fierce, funny, feminist reboot’ centered on three women in a college town.

TVLine obtained descriptions for the three new witches — and one of them is a lesbian. They also added the network is considering actors of ‘all ethnicities’.

To start off, new writers Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin (from Jane the Virgin), did take something from the original: alliteration of names.

In the original, Piper, Phoebe, Paige, and Prue were the witches. This time, they’re Macy, Mel, and Madison.

Meet the witches

Here are the descriptions for the new conjurers.

MACY: A witty, intense science nerd, Macy — who is in her late 20s — is a Ph.D. in quantum physics who’s moving with her boyfriend Galvin to Hilltowne, Michigan, to work in the university lab. Macy has reason to believe that she is the sister of Mel and Madison. Her power is telekinesis.

MEL PRUITT: A strong-willed feminist, she feels deeply and is a bit controlling. Mel — who is in her mid 20s and a lesbian —  is the sister of Madison. In the wake of a tragic accident, the grieving Mel becomes angry, defiantly unkempt, even violent, pushing away those who might help her, including her girlfriend, Detective Soo Jin. Mel’s power is time-freezing.

MADISON PRUITT: Mel’s younger sister (she’s 18-ish), an athletic (pilates, cheerleading) college student pledging a sorority, Madison is the opposite of her feminist sister with a desire to fit in. Madison is horrified to learn she is a witch. Her power is hearing people’s thoughts.

Mel, the feminist of the bunch, is the lesbian. From the description, she’s dating someone named Detective Soo Jin. Likely, the network is also looking for someone to play Jin.

The descriptions also list the sisters’ powers: telekineses, time-freezing, and telepathy.

The reboot is shooting a pilot, but whether or not it gets a full season remains up in the air.

Not everyone is a fan

However, not everyone is excited.

Original cast member Holly Marie Combs has not been quiet of her criticism of the reboot. That continued today.
