Alexander McQueen was one of the most formidable designers in the fashion world.

During his years of work, he became known for his bold, revolutionary, and dramatic work on the catwalk. It earned him the nicknames ‘l’enfant terrible’ and ‘the hooligan of English fashion’.

The first trailer for a documentary on his life and work, courtesy of Bleecker Street, stays true to this reputation.

It uses words like ‘legend’, ‘provacateur’, and ‘genius’ to describe McQueen.

An accomplished life

McQueen was a highly respected and decorated designer in his life.

He was one of the youngest to win British Designer of the Year. Between 1996 and 2003, he won the award four times.

In 2003, the Council of Fashion Designers named him International Designer of the Year.

He was the chief designer at Givenchy from 1996 to 2001, and then went on to create his own label.

In 2010, McQueen died by suicide at his home in Mayfair, London.

Ian Bonhôte directs the doc, with a screenplay by Peter Ettedgui. It comes out this summer.

Looking creator Andrew Haigh is working on another film about the designer. However, his project is a dramatized biopic.
