Actress Daniella Pineda has revealed her character in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was meant to come out as gay but had the crucial scene cut from the final edit.
Pineda plays paleo-veterinarian Dr. Zia Rodriguez in the film.
She told Yahoo! Entertainment that the scene came early on in the film, when she and dinosaur expert Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) are in the ‘getting to know you stages.’
‘I don’t date men, but if I did, it would be you’
‘I look at Chris and I’m like: “Yeah, square jaw, good bone structure, tall, muscles,’” Pineda said. “‘I don’t date men, but if I did, it would be you. It would gross me out, but I’d do it.”’
She furthermore added: ‘I love that I’m looking at Chris Pratt, the hottest guy in the world, and I’m like, “It would gross me out, but I guess I would do it!” It was also cool, because it was a little insight into my character. But they cut it.’
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has a running time of 128 minutes, making it the longest of all the Jurassic Park movies. The second is Jurassic Park itself, which is 127 minutes long.
‘Originally the cut was two hours and 40 minutes,’ added Pineda. ‘[The creative team] were like, ‘This is too long.”‘ She added her character’s sexuality wasn’t ‘relevant to the story, but it was a little glimmer into who she is.’
Jurassic World, the previous film in the Jurassic Park franchise, is the fifth highest-grossing of all time.
