The United States has a gun problem, particularly with mass shootings and school shootings.

These 10 charts show the gun culture in the US, and break down deaths and mass shootings.

Now, one Republican is offering some reasons for the surge of school shootings lately. Rep. Diane Black, who is running for governor of Tennessee, made the comments to local pastors at a meeting last week.

HuffPost obtained the audio clip. In it, Black claims the country’s youth are ‘going in the wrong direction’.

‘There are not any more guns but why does this keep happening?’ she asks, then gives reasons like deterioration of the family, violent movies, and, finally, pornography.

‘It’s available on the shelf when you walk in the grocery store. Yeah, you have to reach up to get it, but there’s pornography there,’ she continued.

‘All of this is available without parental guidance. I think that is a big part of the root cause.’

Ultimately, she said she believes a decrease in violence will come from focusing on the family.

She further told the pastors: ‘We need to find ways that even if we have a pregnancy where both parents aren’t married they still understand they are a parent and what that momma is carrying is the most important thing.’

Teens rising up

Most recently, a shooter killed eight students and two teachers at a school in Texas.

The most prominent this year to reignite this conversation in full force was the Parkland shooting. The Florida shooting left 17 students and faculty members dead. Numerous LGBTI organizations condemned the attack.

However, instead of students turning towards violence, they have instead adopted activism.

Though it was not a school shooting, one of the most violent mass shootings in recent years, the Pulse nightclub massacre, is preparing for the two-year mark soon.
