TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — The University of Arizona just received nearly four million dollars to expand it’s mental health education and healthcare services for LGBTQ+ youth in Southern Arizona.

The money will be put towards the University South West institute for research on women.

One grant of $2.5 million will fund the Spectrum Plus program for the next five years.

The University says the rest of the money will go to Family Pride Initiative over the next three years.

Both of these grants came from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, an agency within the U.S Department of Health and Human Services.

The University of Arizona was one of four organizations selected to head the new programs.
