The Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo, situated in the tourist-friendly Shinjuku, is offering a special LGBTI accommodation package.
The package gives guests access to the 45th floor Premier Grand Club Lounge.
It also offers a 10 percent discount on a ‘special gay area night tour’ of Tokyo’s Shinjuku 2-Chome area.
This includes over 300 bars, shops, and restaurants geared towards the LGBTI community, all within a 200-meter radius.
For those looking for a more thoughtful and insightful time, there is also a cultural program on offer.
This allows guests to learn about local customs and traditions, such as a Japanese tea ceremony, flower arranging and traditional fashion.
A hopeful sign for LGBTI Tokyo
The Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo’s LGBTI package is a sign that businesses in Japan are looking for ways to court LGBT holidaymakers.
Earlier this year, Japan’s Ministry of Health ordered hotels and inns not to refuse entry to LGBTI guests.
This came after a gay couple was turned away from a love hotel (where guests pay for rooms anonymously and by the hour) in 2016. The couple later complained to the Osaka prefecture government, NewNowNext reported.
LGBTI rights in Japan are generally progressive relative to other Asian countries, but the LGBTI community still lacks full equality.
