RuPaul Charles fought back tears as he watched a special message from his idol Judge Judy.
The host of RuPaul’s Drag Race, which is about to start its 10th season, was interviewed on the CBS Sunday Morning program.
In the interview he spoke about his career, his family and the impact of Drag Race on young people.
But there was a special moment in the episode when journalist, Nancy Giles had a surprise for RuPaul.
It was a video message from his long-time idol, Judge Judy, whose TV courtroom show RuPaul watches everyday.
He loves the show – which is a ‘sanctuary’ for him – because, ‘the rules still apply… I’m talking about the rules of civility.’
RuPaul choked up as Judge Judy delivered him a message of support and showered him in compliments.
‘When I think about RuPaul, I think about three words, “talented”, “brave” and “always honest”,’ the Judge said in the message.
‘He knows who he is, he understands life, so I’m glad you’re celebrating him this morning.’
Overcome with emotion watching the video, RuPaul couldn’t believe his idol had such kind words for him.
‘To hear someone I respect like this, say that to me is like hearing my mom say “you done good kid, you done real good”,’ RuPaul said after he watched the message.
RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10 premieres Thursday, March 22 at 8/7c on VH1 in the US.
