Wenatchee-based YWCA NCW Launches LGBTQ-centered Rainbow Camp for Local Youth

Written by

WENATCHEE – YWCA North Central Washington proudly announces the launch of Rainbow Camp, a transformative weekend leadership camp dedicated to empowering LGBTQ and allied youth. Set for August 23-25, this inaugural event aims to provide a safe and inclusive space where young leaders can develop their skills and build lifelong connections.

Rainbow Camp is tailored to equip LGBTQ and allied youth with the tools and confidence needed to become influential leaders in their schools and communities. Throughout the weekend, participants will engage in various activities, including workshops on leadership, advocacy, and self-awareness, team-building exercises, and inspirational talks from experienced mentors and guest speakers across different fields. The camp also offers classic summer camp activities such as swimming, archery, hiking, and tie-dyeing, fostering a sense of community and connection among participants.

Dusti Mahoney, Deputy Director of YWCA North Central Washington, shared her enthusiasm for the program, stating, “Rainbow Camp has been a dream of mine for years. We often encourage youth to ‘be the change’ and ‘take up their seat at the table.’ Rainbow Camp is an opportunity to teach them how to do just that, expanding their horizons and empowering them to become leaders.”

YWCA North Central Washington is committed to empowering women, eliminating racism, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. The organization focuses on breaking the cycle of economic insecurity and homelessness through support and education programs, including operating numerous homeless housing initiatives in Wenatchee. The YWCA Thrift Store also supports community outreach efforts, training, and empowering hundreds of participants each year. The organization is dedicated to centering and uplifting marginalized voices and communities.

Interested participants can register for Rainbow Camp by visiting the camp’s registration link or contacting Dusti Mahoney. The camp will provide all meals, lodging, and transportation, and all volunteers and adult participants will undergo background checks.

YWCA North Central Washington is located at 212 First St, Wenatchee, WA 98802. For more information, call 509.662.3531 or visit ywcancw.org.
