The perfect home away from home for any city traveler. This is how I’d describe Edinburgh’s Ten Hill Place Hotel, part of the BW Premier Collection.
Perched atop one of the city’s hills, it’s near to all the major attractions.
The Festival Theatre Edinburgh is a two-minute walk and the Scottish Parliament Building is 16. Meanwhile, the mighty Arthur’s Seat, the main peak of Holyrood Park, is walkable in 35 minutes.
But there’s more to this chic stopover than just having everything you could want or need right on your doorstep.
From the moment I stepped into the lobby, and in true Scottish fashion, I was given a welcome so warm I immediately felt at home even before seeing my room.
The pleasant surprises kept coming when I saw it.
I was treated to a Superior Room, so there was plenty of extra space to stretch out in. The bathroom was also generously-sized. Perfect if you’re someone who takes their morning stretches seriously, or likes to dance around while getting ready to hit the town.
To top it all off, the first thing I saw when stepping in was the tip of the aforementioned Arthur’s Seat. The city’s famous extinct volcano is incidentally one of my favorite things to do, or see, when I’m in the Scottish capital.
With its elegant, classic look, Ten Hill Place Hotel hits just the right note to cater for both business travelers and tourists alike. Much like the city, the hotel is comfortable and fun, but not flashy or over the top.
In fact, my bed was so comfortable it was a bit tricky to get up in the morning. In the end, I gave myself an extra 15 minutes to just lounge along the somewhat-pillow fort I’d constructed in my sleep.
Breakfast will give you the final kick, so you can start your adventure bright-eyed and bushy tailed.
Apart from the hearty classics, there are plenty of treats to choose from. Pancakes, smoked trout, or just a simple muesli – there’s something for every taste. The chef’s also more than happy to provide a freshly fried/poached egg or two, for that extra protein kick.
Add to that tea or coffee, and I could easily have gone through the day without stopping for extra fuel before dinner. And if breakfast does not seal the deal, dinner most certainly will.
From 5pm, head chef Alan Dickson cooks a menu bursting with flavor for the contemporary No. Ten Restaurant and Wine Bar.
Dickson places an emphasis on local produce and quality; as a result, the menu is short and sweet, and changes with the seasons.
I ate chicken and hand-made gnocchi. It which sounds simple, but the flavors and textures really did make all the difference. Think succulent meat, cooked just right, paired with fluffy, fresh gnocchi. Add a little light gravy really and this dish really cannot be beaten.
