Anderson Cooper: ‘For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in’

Is CNN’s New Year’s Eve team of Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin kaput?

The anchor has taken to Twitter to weigh in on Griffin’s highly-controversial photo session where she is seen holding a bloody decapitated head meant to be US President Donald Trump.

‘For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in,’ the 49-year-old Cooper tweeted.

‘It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.’

Donald Trump Jr. thanked Cooper for his criticism and tweeted: ‘Will you work with her again if @CNN has her back in air? Asking for a lot of people.’

The cable network has employed Griffin each year since 2007 for its live New Year’s Eve coverage from New York City’s Times Square.

Griffin quickly apologized hours after the photo went viral and she was hit with backlash from both sides of the political aisle.

‘I sincerely apologize,’ she said. ‘I’m just now seeing the reaction of these images. I’m a comic; I cross the line. I move the line and then I cross it. I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people. It wasn’t funny. I get it.’

CNN has issued a statement saying they found what Griffin did ‘disgusting and offensive. We are pleased to see she has apologized and asked that the photos be taken down. We are evaluating New Year’s Eve and have made no decisions at this point.’
