However, Jenner did vote for Trump. | Photo: YouTube/This Morning
At a recent event, Caitlyn Jenner — an openly registered Republican — made disparaging comments about Donald Trump’s treatment of trans people.
She was honored at the Champions of Jewish Values International Awards Gala in New York City last week.
While there, she spoke to Newsweek about Trump.
‘As far as trans issues, this administration has been the worst ever,’ she said. ‘They’ve set our community back 20 years, easily. It’s going to be hard to change, but we’ve been through these types of things before and we’ll continue to fight it.’
At the gala, she received the Champion of Israel and LGBTQ Rights Award.
Flip-flopping attitudes
Jenner initially defended Trump’s stance towards the LGBTI community, saying the then-candidate supported them.
Later, she claimed she did not support Trump and instead wanted to help her party, the Republicans, with LGBTI issues.
She also addressed this at the gala, saying about attending Trump’s inauguration: ‘I did come back to the inauguration to meet people. And out of that I have built some very nice and good relationships with the Republican Party, but I have not been back to see Trump.’
People slammed Jenner for her various comments, especially after she voted for Trump in the 2016 election.
Since last year, she has mostly vocalized criticsm for Trump — but then apologized for wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat.
‘The only person surprised’
Despite now criticizing the president and his administration, people remain frustrated with Jenner’s comments. Many find her criticism hollow after she voted for him.
The only person surprised by this seems to be Caitlyn Jenner. https://t.co/7JqJc4j21E

Before the election:
CAITLYN JENNER: I think Trump will be great on LGBT issues.
LITERALLY EVERYONE WHO KNOWS ANYTHING: Wrong. So, so wrong. It’s not possible for you to be more wrong. You are ignorant and just… wrong.
Now:
CAITLYN JENNER: Maybe Trump is… not good.

no, @Caitlyn_Jenner you were one of the 53% of white women who decided to vote for trump! you don’t get to join the good side of the grass because he’s not an ally for your rights.
you destroyed your platform and you are involved in setting the community back instead of forward https://t.co/fNyDrtYPsO
