Netflix have canceled one of the most progressive shows of our time, Sense8.
Personally, I feel betrayed by Netflix. I haven’t felt this sad about a TV show being canceled since The WB canceled Joss Whedon’s Angel more than a decade ago.
Sense8, created by famed director siblings The Wachowskis, had gained the reputation as one of the boldest shows on TV thanks to the highly talented, diverse, and international cast and its willingness to represent progressive ideals and various sexual lifestyles in a positive light. It’s something that is all-too-lacking in both TV and film.
Sense8 centered around eight strangers, scattered all across the globe, who soon discover they’re psychically linked. Or what the show would call a ‘sensate.’
Because of this ability, they’re able to sense and communicate with each other. Also, they’re able to share their knowledge and skills with each other. This resulted in some mind-blowing cinematography that showcased the diversity of our world. Did I mention that government officials were hunting them down to experiment on them?
Founder and CEO Reed Hastings touted, ‘I’m always pushing the content team; we have to take more risk, you have to try more crazy things.’
What’s crazier than eight worldly strangers from all walks of life discovering they’re intrinsically linked mentally and emotionally?
By canceling Sense8 Netflix has proven that they are no longer at the forefront of original programming. We’re losing a show who’s entire message was about love, acceptance, and empathy. Something that is even more precious and important given today’s political climate.
If that’s not enough to show how truly great Sense8 is then let’s remind you of all the steamy and ridiculously hot moments from the epic two seasons of the series.
The love between Nomi, a trans-woman, and her girlfriend Amanita.
The reveal that sizzling Mexican actor Lito is gay and has an adorable boyfriend in Hernando.
One of the hottest scenes ever on TV. The sensates experience a joint orgasm where sexuality and gender are meaningless. Part I.
Part II.
Get it Lito.
Lito remembering his first time with Hernando.
Nomi and Amanita reunited.
Season two starts off with a bang! Part I.
Part II.
Part III.
Part IV.
Part V. Anyone else wanting to be cast in this show?
Wolfgang and Kala sensating their love.
Capheus and Zakia consummating their love. Wolfgang and Kala continue through their psychic connection.
One of the most romantic scenes between Lito and Hernando.
Sense8 broke down the walls of sexuality and gender and showcased the best part of the human connection: love. If you missed the show it’s time to go to Netflix and watch it.
If you feel more impassioned go to Change.org and sign the petition to renew Sense8 for a third season.
