Medics get engaged at New York City Pride
Two paramedics made a special declaration of Pride, and got engaged in New York City today (24 June).
During the parade, two medics from the New York City Fire Department had their engagement and today’s march.
EMT Trudy Bermudez got down on one knee in front of Paramedic Tayreen Bonilla.
Bonilla, of course, said yes.

‘Congrats to #FDNY EMT Trudy Bermudez and Paramedic Tayreen Bonilla from #Station43 on your engagement at today’s #NYCPride2018 March!’ the FDNY said on Instagram.
This isn’t the first time Bermudez and Bonilla, both 38, have worked together.
In April 2017, the pair saved the life of car buff Ken Taskent when he flatlined behind the wheel of his special edition Trans Am during a classic car show in Brooklyn. Taskent is now an auxiliary police officer.
‘There are not enough words I can say. I thank God these crews were there because now I have a second chance at life,’ Taskent wrote on Instagram after his recovery.
Bermudez and Bonilla were honored for their heroism at last month’s NYFD’s Second Chance Ceremony in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
The happy couple couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
Other engagements at Pride events
It is a similar story to when two police officers got engaged at Pride in London in 2016.
C Sam Philpot proposed to PC Martin Coughlan besides the statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus. Footage of the proposal quickly went around the world.
PC Philpot, 23, told the Evening Standard that he’d only made the decision a few days earlier to pop the question: ‘It was only this week after my last night shift that I decided it was going to happen and I went to buy the ring.
‘If you’re going to do it, you have to do it properly. It happened even better than I had imagined. The crowd reacted amazingly, they seemed pretty pleased for us.’
PC Coughlan, 28 said, ‘The proposal was totally unexpected. The rest of the Police contingent marching at Pride was in on it though and all briefed in advance.’
