While Pride season is over in the northern hemisphere, the other half of the world is getting ready to party.
Pretoria’s LGBTIs and allies are about to take their rainbow flags and best outfit to the streets of the executive capital of South Africa. The parade itself is anticipated by several events in the city.
Pretoria Pride festival will start with Pretoria Pride Art Exhibition, opening on 29 September at the Lucit Restaurant and Theater. On 3 October South African drag queen Manila von Teez will host a special night at the Rasputin.
Furthermore, there will be a screening of LGBTI film My Name Is Rose at the Miriam Makeba Auditorium on 5 October. The movie is the story of two girls falling in love and coming to terms with their sexuality in a patriarchal society.
The parade in Pretoria
The 6th annual LGBTI parade will take to the streets on 6 October. This year’s theme is Pride du Soleil.
‘Think Cirque du Soleil, think Greatest Showman, think Rainbow Circus. Dress up in your most spectacular circus inspired outfit and let us take over Centurion for a day,’ reads the Facebook event.
The gates to the festival will open at 9am, while the parade will depart at 2pm.
Entertainment for the day includes live performers, DJs and Drag artists. There will also be a flea market, food stalls and bar, and chill areas.
Moreover, there will be two VIP areas accessible with a VIP ticket. Red Square will offer a VIP area on the field and the second is The Magic Mike VIP lounge, hosted in the Clubhouse with topless Magic Mike barman and waiters.
