Provincetown Bear Week is one of the busiest weeks in the Provincetown summer season. The event draws in big boys and hirsute fellas from around the globe.
The small, US town, at the furthest point of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is a gay-friendly destination all year round, but it really comes into its own in the summer months (as anyone failing to find a bargain-priced hotel room will testify!).
This year’s Bear Week was the 17th to be organized by Provincetown Bears.
Running 8-16 July, it delivered nine days and nights of ‘pool parties, beach outings, dance parties and leather events.’ There was also plenty of opportunity to enjoy P’Town’s restaurants, cabaret shows, art galleries and other attractions.
‘Bearweek is a place where people can come from around the world and have an incredible time with both old and new friends,’ says Bear Week attendee Steve Stuber, from San Francisco, CA. ‘It’s an experience of your own design! Wether you are looking for love or just a relaxing vacation it’s all there.’
‘I hadn’t been in a few years,’ New York City hairdressed Jeff Chastain told GSN. ‘But I thought this year’s bear week was was great mix of bears from a broad spectrum: big guys, small guys, all ages, lots of queer bears with diverse gender expression, leather, glitter, and more. It was nice to see the community being all inclusive again.’
That inclusivity included a fabulous fancy dress tea dance. It drew an amazing group of guys who dressed as Wonder Woman. When they casually strolled down Commercial Street, P’Town’s main drag, they bought the center of town to a standstill!
