Canada’s first LGBTQ+ museum

Written by gaytourism

The Canadian capital Ottawa is home to some of the world’s best exhibitions, galleries and other cultural attractions.

The latest planned addition will be the country’s first LGBTQ+ museum. Scheduled to open in 2021 at LeBreton Flats just west of the city’s downtown, it will tell the stories of Canadians who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and more.

In May The Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity launched a $10-million fundraising campaign and a year-long consultation “on how folks would like to use the space”.

The 15,000-square-foot facility is planned as part of an impressive mixed-use development near Ottawa’s Canadian War Museum.
