Fans cosplay as romantic Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn

In the latest issue of Injustice 2, the prequel comic for the Injustice video game, DC confirmed that Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are married.

Background

Dr. Pamela Isley and Dr. Harleen Quinzel have been partners in crime, and perhaps more, since their first appearance together in Batman: The Animated Series. That episode, Harley and Ivy, premiered back in 1993.

Since then, many in the Batman fandom have shipped Harley and Ivy as a romantic couple. In fact, it was always the intention of Batman writer Paul Dini and director Bruce Timm that the two are more than friends. Hints about this ‘special relationship’ began appearing in the comics in 1999, when Harley became a permanent DC character. In 2015, without the censorship of Fox Kids, the two were finally able to be open about that romance.

The marriage

In previous issues of the Injustice: Gods Among Us, Harley and Ivy’s romance was strongly hinted at. But in Issue #70 of Injustice 2, their love is actually confirmed.

Issue #70 shows two other members of the Suicide Squad, Waylon ‘Killer Croc’ Jones and Dr. Grace ‘Orca’ Balin, tying the knot. This plotline leads Ivy to recall a night she and Harley spent in Las Vegas. Of course, Las Vegas is well-known for its abundance of quickie wedding chapels. The couple meets with an Elvis impersonator, and it can be assumed they are marrying at the Graceland Wedding Chapel.

Anything else?

Back in 2016, it was announced that Harley Quinn was to get her own spin-off movie. That film, an adaptation of the Gotham City Sirens comic series, is expected to depict Harley and Ivy as girlfriends.
