It’s Gay Uncles Day on Sunday (12 August) and here’s everything you need to know.
The day started two years ago when Florida resident C.J Hatter took to Facebook to make the suggestion.
He wrote: ‘Mark your calendars now! The second Sunday in August is Gay Uncles Day. Shower your favorite gay uncle with gifts and recognition!’
Hatter later elaborated: ‘‘My goal in promoting this day of celebration is to normalize the role of the gay uncle, cousin, brother… whatever, in the family and in society.
‘The more visible we are, and the more forthright we and our loved ones are of our very existence, the less uncomfortable society will be with us,’ he said.
Gay uncles (or ‘guncles’) play a pivotal role in the family unit.
When we first posted about the day two years ago, the reaction was viral.
Gay Uncles Day returned last year and again, there was an overwhelming positive reaction.
So in preparation this year, we thought we’d prepare a collection of photos of Gay Uncles.
