Alex Smith kicked off Pride Month as the new leader of Equality Alabama
A note from from Alex Smith
“For the LGBTQ community, today marks the beginning of Pride Month – a month dedicated to celebrating the vibrancy of our community, living our truth, remembering those we have lost and those who have paved the way, and preparing for the next year of hard work and accomplishments ahead of us.
For me, today marks my first official day of having the honor to serve you as Equality Alabama’s new executive director.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many of you over the past few years both personally in the community and professionally through my work at AIDS Alabama, but for those of you I haven’t met yet, I’ll tell you a bit about myself. My husband Michael and I live in Birmingham with our two dogs, Joplin and Callie. He’s an (incredibly talented) stylist, and I’ve been in nonprofit work for ten years focusing on health equity, HIV, racial justice, and LGBTQ rights.”
