A gay strategist has shut down a Fox News pundit who mocked a caged migrant child separated from her parents.

Republican commentator Corey Lewandowski ridiculed a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome, saying ‘womp womp’.

Gay strategist Zak Petkanas was on the Republican news show to take on Trump’s policies on ‘cruel’ immigration.

The president’s ‘zero-tolerance’ policy has outraged public opinion over undocumented Central American children being separated from their parents when trying to enter the US.

During an appearance on Fox News on Tuesday night (19 June), Lewandoski replied using the ‘sad trombone’ sound to Petkanas describing the incident.

‘How dare you, sir?’

‘I read today about a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome who was taken from her mother and put in a cage…,’ Petkanas began.

Lewandoski then interrupted Petkanas, making the so-called Sad Trombone sound, dismissing and ridiculing the story.

The Democratic strategist got into a rage.

‘Did you just say “womp womp” to a 10-year-old with Down syndrome?’ he said.

‘How dare you, sir? How absolutely dare you! We have infants that are being stolen from their mothers and put into cages,’ he continued, visibly emotional.

Lewandowski appeared to remain calm.

‘When you cross the border illegally, when you commit a crime, you are taken away from your family,’ the Republican replied.

‘I’m a gay man’

Petkanas, who now runs his own company Petkanas Strategies, addressed his sexual orientation in a tweet defending American network MSNBC host Joy Reed, accused of anti-LGBTI views.

‘I’m a gay man,’ he tweeted. ‘The LGBT community has actual enemies trying to put us back in the closet.’
