In a brief respite from real-world politics, Netflix is bringing us a brand new political comedy that sounds delightful. First Ladies stars Jennifer Aniston and Tig Notaro as the President and First Lady of the White House, respectively.
The show is based on a pitch from Notaro and her wife, Stephanie Allynne. They’ll also be writing the series.
Here’s the logline for the series:
First Ladies is a political comedy about America’s first female President and her wife, The First Lady. When Beverly and Kasey Nicholson move into the White House, they’ll prove that behind every great woman… is another great woman.
The project comes after the tragic cancellation of Notaro’s Amazon series One Mississippi.
Chris Henchy, the co-creator of the website Funny or Die, is executive producing. Notaro, Allynne, and Aniston will also produce, alongside Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Betsy Koch.
There’s no release date for the series.
Notaro’s new comedy special, Happy to Be Here, however, hits Netflix on 22 May. She’s also directing Ellen DeGeneres’ next comedy project on the streaming site.
