LGBTQ progress pride flag to fly again

Written by

For the second consecutive year, the City of Verona will fly the LGBTQ progress pride flag for Pride Month this June.

Unlike last year, however, the flag will be located at a total of nine locations – not just city hall. This resolution was introduced by District 2 Alder Rye Kimmett and District 4 Alder Beth Tucker Long at an April 22 Common Council meeting.

The City of Verona passed its first display of flag policy in June 2023. It requires either the mayor or two alders to submit a written request to fly a commemorative flag.

The LGBTQ progress pride flag will be flown during the month of June at nine different locations: Verona City Hall, Verona Public Library, Verona Fire Department, Verona Public Works, Verona Senior Center, Hometown Junction, Central Park, Verona Cemetery and the City Sign (Corner of N. Main Street and Cross Country Road).

District 2 Alder Mara Helmke expressed appreciation to her fellow alders for bringing a resolution forward again this year in recognition of Pride Month.

“I’m grateful that we support the LGBTQ community here in Verona,” she said. “I think it’s a really good signal to all the people who live here and come here, that visit our library and our city hall, that we are a welcoming community.”
