A leading Malaysia newspaper has published a checklist to identify gay people.
Sinar Harian featured several bullet points on distinctive qualities that could help you to work out who is gay or lesbian.
They said gay men could be identified by:
- Their love of beards
- Going to the gym not for exercise but to check out other men
- Branded clothing
Their eyes light up when they see handsome men
And lesbians could be identified by:
- If they hug other women
- Hold hands with other women
- Belittle men
Homosexuality is illegal in Malaysia and punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
Activist slams checklist that puts LGBTI lives at ‘risk’
Activist Arwind Kumar, one of Malaysia’s biggest social media stars, said the article had put lives at risk.
Posting a video on his Facebook page, the stirring attack on the article has been viewed more than 100,000 times.
He said: ‘There are much more important issues in this country which need to be addressed.
‘If you really want to educate society then explain to them the traits of a pedophile, a molester, a murderer, a kidnapper, people who actually endanger the lives of others.
‘How the hell does a gay person endanger your life?
‘I know a lot of of really really religious people who love keeping beards. Are you trying to say they are gay? That’s how stupid this is.’
Teen was beaten, raped and burned to death in Malaysia last year
In June 2017, an 18-year-old was beaten, raped and burned by a group of classmates in the Malaysian suburb of Gelugor.
T Nhaveen was going to Kuala Lumpur for college the next day.
A gang, who wanted to torment him one final time, attacked him.
Doctors treated him for severe head injuries and a wound on his groin which was oozing blood. His anus was torn badly, likely due to a blunt object being inserted inside.
He died after being declared brain dead.
