Indian police are looking for a man who allegedly assaulted his friend with a ‘sharp weapon’ after he refused to have sex with him.

The 40-year-old attacked his 29-year-old friend in the western city of Pune last week.

Police are still looking for the man who they have booked with ‘voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means’ under section 324 of the Indian Penal Code. The penalty for the crimes carries a maximum jail term of up to three years or a fine, or both.

Gay sex is illegal under section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.

Manhunt is on

But it is believed the men were in a sexual relationship. They had met a few months ago at the same gym. It is understood the men were out for a walk together when the alleged victim told the man he did not want to keep having sex with after he recently got married.

‘The duo was also in sexual relationship with each other,’ a local police officer told the Times of India.

‘On Monday night, the duo had gone for a stroll. When they reached the service road around 10pm, the suspect started pursuing the complainant to have sex with him.

‘The man became furious and assaulted the complainant with a sharp weapon. We have launched a manhunt for him.’

The victim received injuries to his hand, but was otherwise fine.

In July, the Supreme Court of India will hear arguments to overturn section 377 of the Indian Penal Code to decriminalize homosexual sex.
