RuPaul’s peers are honoring him with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday (16 March).

Fellow performer Jane Fonda is presenting him with his star. Plaques in the shape of stars line Hollywood boulevard, one of the most famous streets in the world. The stars show the honoree’s name and a symbol for what their best known for, whether radio, television, film, music, or live performance.

So far, there are more than 2,600 stars.

A high honor

RuPaul is one of many famous names getting a star this year. Others include Ryan Murphy, Jennifer Lawrence, Lynda Carter, Gillian Anderson, Eric McCormack, Shonda Rhimes, Snoop Dogg, Weird Al, Minnie Mouse, Niecy Nash, Mary J. Blige, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Simon Cowell, and Kirsten Dunst.

Steve Irwin and comedian Bernie Mac are also receiving posthumous stars.

‘[We] looked carefully at each nominee and we feel that we have selected an eclectic group of talent that will appeal to the tastes of many fans around the world,’ said Walk of Fame committee member Vin Di Bona.

While appearing on The Ellen Show, RuPaul compared the honor to being knighted.

‘It’s the most exciting thing that has happened to me. I’ve done a lot of great things… this is the most exciting thing of all,’ he said.

His star is located at 6652 Hollywood Boulevard, outside the offices of World of Wonder Productions, which makes RuPaul’s Drag Race.
