See why being guest of ‘kind’ Ellen DeGeneres can be genuinely scary

Ellen DeGeneres came out publicly in 1997.

Ellen DeGeneres seems like such a friendly and kind daytime talk show host. But she has a scary side.

One of the recurring features of The Ellen DeGeneres Show over the years has been finding creative ways to scare the heck out of guests when they least expect it.

A few days ago, Philadelphia Eagles star and magician Jon Dorenbos helped DeGeneres relive some of her greatest scares.

‘Everyone loves when Ellen scares people on the show,’ Dorenbos says. ‘Well, maybe not the people getting scared but it is hilarious for everybody else.’

Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet had not even made it onto the set when he received a fright captured by hidden camera.

Then he got to be on the other sides of things when he tiptoed onto the set during onscreen husband Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s appearance to startle him.

Ferguson was not pleased.

Their co-star Julie Bowen wins for best scream after she is surprised by a giant, green creature with black spots.

We find out that when people get scared they forget they are on daytime TV and get of a potty mouth including Neil Patrick Harris (‘You son of a bitch!’), Jennifer Lopez (‘Are you f***ing kidding me?) Jake Gyllenhaal (‘Oh my God! What the f**k?)

Other guests we see scream, shriek, yell, jump from their seat include Matt Lauer, Chris Evans, Carrie Underwood and more. [embedded content]
